Man, woman charged following armed robbery at Scarborough temple
Police say a disguised man and woman entered the Hindu temple located in the Kennedy Road and McNicoll Avenue area at around 9 p.m.
Once inside, the woman attempted to zip tie and duct tape a victim while pointing a gun at him. At the same time, police say the armed man tried to round up others present in the temple.
One person was able to escape and call 911. Both suspects fled the scene empty-handed prior to police arriving.
On Wednesday, following the release of security camera images, two suspects were arrested by police.
Investigators believe the suspects are also responsible for a robbery at a cellphone store in November 2012.
The suspects, identified as Jermaine Copeland, 28, and 19-year-old Kaitlynn Dutton face a number of charges including four counts each of robbery, five counts each of forcible confinement and assault with intent.
Police are also asking for the public’s help in identifying a man associated with the two accused known as “Kumar.”
Police believe his minivan was captured leaving the temple the night of the robbery. It is described as a light-coloured, older model minivan.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 416-808-7350 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
