16 வயதான ஒமர் அல் ஷேக்குக்கு புற்றுநோய் முற்றிய நிலை. அவருக்கு சிகிச்சை அளிக்க ஸ்டெம் செல் தானம் செய்வோர் கிடைக்காத நிலை. இதனால் இன்னும் சில நாட்களே வாழ முடியும் என்று டாக்டர்கள் கூறி விட்டனர். வாழ்வின் கடைசிப் பக்கத்திற்கு வந்து விட்ட ஒமர் தனது மனம் கவர்ந்த, தன் வயதேயான அமியிடம் தனது காதலையும், திருமணம் செய்யும் விருப்பத்தையும் சொன்னார். அமியும் சம்மதித்தார். இருவரும் திருமணம் செய்து கொண்டனர். அடுத்த 3 நாட்களில் ஒமர் மரணத்தைத் தழுவினார். முன்னதாக ஒமரின் நாட்கள் எண்ணப்படுவதாக பிரிமிங்காம் க்வீன் எலிசபெத் மருத்துவமனை டாக்டர்கள் அவரது குடும்பத்தாரிடம் கூறவே, தனது கடைசி ஆசையைச் கூறியுள்ளார் ஒமர். அமியும் உடனடியாக திருமணத்திற்கு ஒத்துக் கொண்டார். அதுவும் புன்னகையுடன்.
16 வயது இளைஞனாக மருத்துவமனைக்கு வந்த ஒமர் திருமணமான நபராக உயிர் பிரிந்து சென்றுள்ளார். மருத்துவமனையில் இந்தத் திருமணம் நடந்தது. இருவரும் மணக்கோலத்தில் வர குடும்பத்தினர், நண்பர்கள், மருத்துவமனை ஊழியர்கள் புடை சூழ திருமணம் சந்தோஷமாக நடந்தேறியது.
இந்தத் திருமணம் குறித்து அமி கூறுகையில், ‘நாங்கள் இருவரும் திருமணம் செய்து கொள்ள ஏற்கனவே திட்டமிட்டிருந்தோம். ஆனால் அதற்குள் ஒமருக்கு புற்றுநோய் பாதிப்பு வந்து விட்டது. வளர்ந்து பெரியவர்களானதும் திருமணம் செய்ய முடிவு செய்திருந்தோம். ஆனால் எதிர்பாராத விதமாக 16 வயதில் அது நடந்து விட்டது. இருப்பினும் இதற்காக நான் மிகவம் மகிழ்கிறேன்' எனத் தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.
லூகேமியா புற்று நோயால் மரணமடைந்தார் ஒமர். சிறு வயதினருக்கு அது பெரும்பாலும் வரும் என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.
