A WOMAN who is thought to have died in a double suicide has been identified as M Rasik Shyamila, from Sri Lanka.

Her body was found hanging from a ceiling fan on Saturday, while the dead body of her Indian lover Mohamed Anvar Batherdeen was discovered on the floor nearby.

However, the circumstances surrounding their deaths in their Muharraq house remain shrouded in mystery.

"We have no more details except her name, which was given to us by police," said a Sri Lankan Embassy spokesman yesterday.

"It's confirmed she is Sri Lankan and was living with Mr Batherdeen for a few months.

"We don't know if they got married or were living as a couple and we are still waiting for more details.

"They said as this case is under investigation they won't be able to give more information."

The GDN reported yesterday that Mr Batherdeen had run up six months in rent arrears, according to his landlord. It has also emerged that Mr Batherdeen paid BD160 last month to rent a car until the middle of this month.
